Mark Margolis was born in Philadelphia, PA, on November 26, 1939. Isidore and Fanya, Mark’s parents, came to America from Israel. Margolis went to Temple University for a short time before dropping out to move to New York City. Mark started taking classes at the Actors Studio with Stella Adler when he was 19. He then took classes with Barbara Loden and Lee Strasberg.
Career
Margolis made his film debut in 1975’s “Report to the Commissioner” as an uncredited bartender. He then appeared in “The Opening of Misty Beethoven,” “Short Eyes,” “Going in Style,” “Dressed to Kill,” “Christmas Evil,” and “Eddie Macon’s Run,” as well as the TV movies “The Other Side of Victory,” “Muggable Mary, Street Cop,” and “Rage of Angels” (1983). Mark played Alberto “The Shadow” in “Scarface” with Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer in 1983. He also appeared in “The Cotton Club” in 1984 and “Glory” in 1989, both of which were nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Mark got married to Jacqueline Petcove on June 3, 1962. In 1968, they had a son named Morgan. Morgan became an actor like his father, who was also an actor. After falling on the set of “Better Call Saul” in July 2017, Margolis had to have surgery right away to fix her brain. Later, Mark’s representative said, “Doctors found a small amount of brain swelling and did a standard procedure to get rid of it.”
Nominations for Awards
In 2012, “Breaking Bad” earned Margolis a nomination for the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work on the show. He was nominated for two Gold Derby Awards for the show: one in 2012 for Drama Guest Actor and another in 2019 for Drama Guest Actor of the Decade.
Mark was nominated for a Saturn Award and an Online Film & Television Association Award in 2012 for his work on “Breaking Bad.” The Saturn Award was for Best Guest Performance in a Television Series, and the Online Film & Television Association Award was for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
