Shooting at Miami Beach Spring Break Leaves One Dead and Another Injured

Police say that gunfire broke out in a part of Miami Beach that was full of people on spring break. One person was killed and another was hurt, and dozens of people ran for cover.

Two men were shot on Friday night, and the Miami Beach Police Department tweeted that one person was taken into custody at the scene. No one knew for sure if the person who was being held was the shooter. Three guns were also found, police said.

The shooting happened on South Beach’s Ocean Drive, where cars aren’t allowed on the busiest part because so many people are there for spring break. Police said that one of the people who were hurt died at the hospital, and the other was in critical condition. Their names were not given out right away.

Authorities say that dozens of people tried to get out of the way of the gunfire. Yellow crime scene tape was used to block off several blocks in the area.

There was no other information available right away.

This is the second shooting in as many years on South Beach during spring break. After two shootings on Ocean Drive the year before, the city put a midnight curfew in place.

The year before, during a rowdy spring break, about 1,000 people were arrested and dozens of guns were taken away. This caused Miami Beach officials to take steps to calm things down.
